The story of
The origin of Jovac winery estate dates back to 1908, when 60 men joined resources to make wine in Jovac. After the Great War, the construction of the Jovac winery and the Grand cellar was completed in 1922.
Jovac winery, now fully reconstructed and more beautiful then ever, is located in the center of the Jovac village. The newly planted vineyards are only 800 meters from the winery, perfectly located on the slopes of Mount Juhor near fertile Morava river plain.
- 10 hectars
- Soil type
- smonitza, vertisol
- Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Prokupac; Tamjanika, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc
The fertile soil in our vineyards (smonitza, vertisol) is characterized by a good mechanical composition that enables balanced growth and development of our vine. The rich mineral composition is reflected in the authentic taste of our wines.
First winemakers from Jovac knew the microclimate is one of the key controlling factors in grape and wine production. They perfectly placed the vineyard and selected the grapes variety in order to maintain a climate-soil-variety equilibrium.
We choose the grape varieties and the adequate clones to best suit our tradition, our soil and our climate. We planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Prokupac, Tamjanika, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
The sunlight is essential to grapes to transform the energy from the sun into energy that can be assimilated by the cells to grow or to accumulate sugar (in the vine). The position of our vineyard is such that is gets sunlight all day long.
Soil inclination in our vineyard (between 10 and 30 degrees) has a major effect on the thermal regime, insolation and soil moisture. This kind of terrain is a favourable factor for vine and grape growing as well as making high quality wine.
Winery was designed by inspired architects, built by selected masons, supported by local winegrowers. It was a true pride and joy of Jovac since 1922. It is now proudly standing restored in its former glory, more beautiful then ever.
Jovac vineyards and winery are located on the 150th kilometer south of Belgrade, going via E-75 (Belgrade – Nis) and on the 12th kilometer south of Jagodina (regional road R 217). In one part, Jovac leans on the slopes of Mount Juhor, while the other part lies on the fertile Moravian plain. The slopes of Mount Juhor near base, where our vineyards are located, have proven to be exceptional for growing vines over the last few centuries.
